Overview

Beivalur Feverbreaker Godthiraskime is a Goliath of the Mosae clan from the high slopes of the Rinzeremel Mountains — a mountain of a man who became the first Goliath to graduate from the Royal Medical Academy of Orsholon. His medical training is augmented by druidic abilities, making him a uniquely gifted healer who approaches patient care holistically. He is known throughout Orsholon as “The Giant Healer,” and his every choice traces to a debt he carries back to his people in the mountains.

Background

Beivalur was born to the Mosae clan of Goliaths who inhabit the high slopes of the Rinzeremel Mountains. From a young age, he questioned the tribe’s stance on healing. When he saw mothers losing children to illnesses that could have been treated, or elders succumbing to wounds that might have healed with proper care, he felt a calling to help — to ease suffering rather than accept the loss. This placed him in conflict with the traditions of his people, but the Mosae recognized the calling in him and allowed him to leave the mountain to pursue his path.

His father, a warrior, died not long after he was born; his mother frowned on his interest in learning and the healing arts until she saw how it helped the tribe.

Recruited by Elindine Raelle at the Enchanted Jackal, on Hargus’s behalf, he came to the Jackal on graduation day, leaving the next morning for Lawcrane. She gave him a letter of introduction to the healers there, and he did not learn until the Aerie Inn in Tremer that he had been gathered, with the others, for Hargus’s purpose.

Education and Career

Beivalur traveled to Orsholon City and sought entry into the Royal Medical Academy. Though Goliaths were rarely seen in the city, and never as applicants to the Academy, his earnestness and obvious intelligence earned him a chance. He became the first Goliath to graduate from the Royal Medical Academy — a feat that spread his reputation before he had even begun to practice.

After graduating, he relocated to Lawcrane where he opened a small practice on Vellum Street, near Lawcrane’s eastern market district. His reputation as a healer of great skill has continued to grow, and patients from across Orsholon seek his care — particularly for conditions conventional physicians cannot treat. He charges according to ability to pay: those with means pay in coin; those without pay in labor, goods, or a promise to help another in need.

A typical day begins before dawn with meditation and prayer to Ranoh, followed by morning consultations. Afternoons are spent compounding medicines. Evenings are reserved for reading and correspondence with fellow healers across Orsholon.

Personality

Goliaths who know Beivalur remark that he is unusually kind, gentle, and well-spoken by the standards of their people. He has an easy, jovial manner that puts even the most nervous patient at ease. He is immensely curious about the world and other cultures, and has made it his mission to learn as much as he can from the people he meets. Against his stone-grey, mottled skin, his eyes are a startling deep blue — gentle, curious eyes in a face carved for war. He moves with the unhurried ease of a man who has nothing to prove.

Motivation

Beivalur’s every choice traces to a debt he carries back to his people in the Rinzeremel Mountains. The Mosae believe every member of a tribe must have a purpose, must carry their weight — and Beivalur, who could not be a warrior or a hunter, found his purpose in healing. The tribe let him leave the mountains to study the higher medical arts, and that leaving is the loan he means to repay. “My tribe deserves for me to return as the best possible healer I can be,” he told Elindine Raelle on the night of his graduation, “and I do them an injustice if I do not garner more experience.”

He did not come for fortune — his classmates wanted fortunes; he wanted skill enough to truly help his tribe. He is also, quietly, proving something. His father died a warrior not long after he was born, and his mother frowned on his interest in learning and the healing arts until she saw how it helped the tribe. Among the Mosae, a man who cannot fight must earn his place another way: “To remain, I had to show my value to the tribe. So I healed warriors who were injured.” He means to return and show them that there is value in knowledge.

The road is not a career; it is practice for the mountain. That is why he is uneasy with being “for hire” — “I do not do this for money. Where is the honor if you are simply for hire?” — and why he accepts Hargus’s mission anyway: it lets him test and hone his skills. The people he heals along the way are all practice for the one thing he means to bring home.

Druidic Abilities

Beivalur’s medical training is augmented by druidic abilities — a connection to the natural world that sets him apart from conventional Orsholonian physicians. He learned the foundations of druidic practice from a wandering Mosae elder who visited his mountain village when he was a child. The elder recognized a natural attunement to life energy and taught him the basics before moving on.

• Healing Touch: Beyond conventional medicine, Beivalur can channel natural energy through his hands to accelerate healing. He describes this as “reminding the body of what it already knows how to do.”
• Speak with Animals: He can communicate with animals — useful for tracking, scouting, and on one memorable occasion negotiating with a territorial mountain goat that had blocked a pass.
• Wild Empathy: He senses the emotional state of natural creatures and, to a lesser degree, plants.
• Herbal Mastery: His knowledge of medicinal plants is encyclopedic. He cultivates a small garden behind his Lawcrane practice where he grows rare herbs that cannot be bought in Orsholon’s markets.

Beivalur does not advertise his druidic abilities. In Orsholon, druidic magic is viewed with suspicion by the medical establishment, which favors empirical methods. He integrates his abilities discreetly, attributing remarkable recoveries to “good medicine and the will of Ranoh.”

Relationship with Other Mosae

Beivalur’s departure from Mosae territory was peaceful but not without cost. He left with the blessing of his tribe’s elders — they recognized his calling as genuine — but he carries the weight of being different from his people.

Among Mosae who know of him, opinions are divided. Traditionalists view his departure as a form of abandonment — a rejection of Mosae self-reliance in favor of “soft” Orsholonian medicine. Progressives see him as proof that Mosae can excel outside the mountains, paving the way for future generations. His family — his mother and two younger siblings still living in the Rinzeremel Mountains — remain proud. His mother sends word via passing Furgila caravans when she can, and Beivalur sends remittances home.

Beivalur has not returned to the Rinzeremel Mountains since leaving, and whether the tribe would welcome him back as one of their own remains uncertain.
