It is believed that the oldest of gods, much greater and more unknowable even than our own, have a form incomprehensibly large and shapes much unlike our own. However, our gods had shapes like comets, a large ball of energy with a great trail behind it, and when they formed the first fae, they were modeled after their own forms.

These first fae quickly began to change forms over the many times they died and were reborn, soon using their tails to rest upon rather than float constantly, then splitting their tail in two to move in smaller amounts for less energy, then splitting it once more to create arms and hands, that they might interact with the world around them more easily. After this, they took all the nebulous energy within themselves and gave themselves parts that had different uses, eyes that could see, ears to hear, mouths to speak and eat, to better enjoy the world around them, and easier to experience and sort out those experiences. They kept their comet tail as hair, cascading down and flowing freely reminiscent of their origin, which is why many groups still consider cutting your hair to be a decision not taken lightly.

Over more lives, they started to seek out creatures from Lapida as it grew, watching them and taking on traits they found interesting, then more enjoying the looks other fae had, and ending up in different general groupings of traits.

Once those first fae had lived many lives and gotten used to their own existence, the gods felt confident enough to give them mortal bodies and lives, setting them down in different groups in select parts of Lapida, and the gods themselves watching over that first crop of mortals directly. As the gods watched their new mortals grow, they became more enamored with their creations, and many remodeled their own bodies after our own, that we could see ourselves in them. This, along with the fae that were created after having older fae to look on, are able to rather quickly change their form from the more comet-like appearance they are still born with to the bodies we now know them to possess as adults.
