Daxholm, home to the Kings of Daxholm, the last of the Old Blood Kingdoms to fall to the Furse threat of the Great Savage Host, and the only kingdom to rise up after that fall and reclaim it’s throne. The world from which the Commonwealth of Drala could said to have been founded from
Blair was in awe as they traveled through the packed streets of the capital city. Waving and cheering people welcomed her and the king. She waved back as to the crowds from the open landcraft as it moved slowly above the ground through the cheering crowds to the former palace of the Kings of Daxholm which had become the kings of the Commonwealth.
“They love you,” King Oswald say from beside her.
“It is you they cheer for,” Blair returned but continued to look out into the hundreds gathered.
“I have been here many times, and while they have always given me a generous greeting, they have never flocked the streets such as this,” King Oswald told her.
“It’s gorgeous here.” Blair told him.
“The Old Capital,” King Oswald said softly, and let out a sigh. “In truth my queen, Daxholm is still the official capital of the Commonwealth, although I much prefer Bastion to Daxholm. The people sometimes resent me for that, but Daxholm is like a country estate, while Bastion is a center of trade for the whole Commonwealth.”
“I look forward to our time here,” Blair said.
“Dozens of my ancestors are buried on Daxholms in great tombs,” King Oswald continued. “It is an important place of honor within the Commonwealth. Your new estate once belonged to my grandmother. Several tombs lay scattered close by, but it is a beautiful area full of berry fields, and great forests.”
Blair reached out and placed her hand on King Oswald’s. “I look forward to seeing it, but look forward to more time spent with you my love,” she said gently.
The King let out a sigh. “I wish I had more time in a day for you,” he told her and looked towards the cheering crowds. “I shall make more time though. We shall spend time together as man and wife. I promise.”
“I look forward to it,” Blair said as the king lifted her hand and kissed it.
“Daxholm,” King Oswald said as he looked out into the crowds of cheering people. “Birth place of kings, birth place of the Commonwealth of Drala,” he said with a slight smile.
